Ruben Big Ben Sanchez has been in music and media for almost two decades. Growing up in a musical family, his first recollections as a child were in recording studios across Texas. His mother was a gospel and jazz artist and his father was a senior pastor of a church in Big Springs, Texas where Big Ben was born and grew up. He lived most of his life in Texas and later moved to Phoenix, AZ in his sophmore year of high school. There is where Big Ben got his first taste of Theatre and later Radio.
An accomplished vocalist, Big Ben received a full vocal scholarship to Southwestern College where he toured for a year and a half with the school public relations group. Still during this time, Big Ben was working on films, doing stage productions, and minor roles in some Disney films.
In 1996, Big Ben decided to further his education in media by attending a little radio school called the Academy of Radio Broadcasting. He graduated top of his class. He worked all over the city starting at an alternative station, later to an R&B oldies station and finally to the two stations that would become his home for the next six years, Power 92 and 1039 the party. Big Ben met his soon to be boss and friend, Krazy Kid in the summer of '97 and would work closely with him as a script writer, producer, side kick and street promoter for three years taking his morning show to dominance in Phoenix. This whole time knowing that he was there for a purpose, Big Ben stayed a light in a very dark world.
After three years, Kid had offered Big Ben his own show with a new station that he moved to just a few months before. This time Big Ben would not just be a sidekick, but would be the host. In the next nine months big Ben would watch as his show would be blessed from the position fo last place to third in City! Big Ben left the show soon after to run his highly successful production and management company, started a career in politics ad married his high school sweetheart.
It has been two years since Big Ben was in radio, but now his coming back making the rules and following what God has in store. He is truly excited to be hosting the hottest new Gospel Hip Hop and Alternative show, MY GENERATION.
Check out My Generation every Monday thru Friday from 11pm to Midnight on KXEG 1280am or your local christian radio station that carries the show. |
